Sometimes life and horse lessons come from the strangest places even a football game!
Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday.
Just being honest. I only sat down to watch a few commercials. But, because I am so ADD and seldom ever watch tv, I slipped into a tv trance and couldn’t stop watching.
A football enthusiast could give you an intriguing play by play, but I won’t even begin to pretend I know more than the very fundamentals lol.
Basically the Carolina Panthers were a bit behind most of the game, but were holding their own until in the 4th quarter the Denver Broncos, made a touchdown to pull to where it would be really really hard (almost impossibe) for the Panthers to catch up.
You could see the Broncos become stronger and the Panthers become weaker. Where as the had been holding their own, suddenly they couldn’t even make a play to barely advance the ball!
Do you ever feel like that?
I know I do.
It’s easy to move forward when you are coming off a “win” or feel like you are getting ahead in life. (Any kind of success)
But moving forward, when things aren’t going the best is tough!
Life feels heavy and it is hard to get focused and get back on track!
We all love the underdog, Rocky type stories (Adrian! Adrian!) where the hero, finds the inner strength to pull from behind and beat down the opposition for Victory!
Where does the power come from? When you feel deflated, where does that inner drive come from to tramp the last mile?
Have you ever heard the expression of “the dark horse”?
The Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners defines the expression a dark horse thus:
1. “someone with a secret, especially a secret ability, skill or acheivement, that surprises you when you finally discover it”
2. “someone who wins a race, competition, election etc. that no-one expected them to win”
(According to the website One-Stop English (see reference below) “The origins of the expression are often attributed to a 19th century American horse-owner who raced a black stallion. He would arrive in a strange town and pretend that his horse was just an ordinary pack horse. Then he would enter it into a race and, to the surprise of the locals, his horse would win the race and he would pocket the prize money.”)
Motivation speaker and author of the book “The Charged Life” Brendon Burchard tells us, “A power plant doesn’t have energy. It generates energy.”
Could the secret of the dark horse, be the ability to generate the energy, the courage, the power to pull from behind when every thing is stacked up against them?
The truth is this secret ability lies within each of us. We all have this God given power.
You, me. All of us. We may not win the race today, but if we do not give up we will stand be victorious.
Your dream, your goals your vision IS IMPORTANT.
It has meaning, and brings inspiration to the world.
COURAGE is contagious and gives others the strength to try too!
So if today, the wind has been taken from your sails,
you are down in the last quarter,
you feel like a voice in the wilderness,
you are scrambling to get things done,
the sh#! is piling up in your stalls and the water buckets need filling.
I encourage you, reach within, find your inner strength. Remember WHY you started. Remember WHO you are. Pull up behind the pack, BELIEVE you can do it and BE THE UNEXPECTED ENTRANT WHO COMES FROM BEHIND TO WIN.
Be the dark horse.
You got this!
